International Management Development Seminars (IMDS)

European Union’s Executive Training Program in Japan (ETP)

In 1979, the European Union launched the Executive Training Program (ETP) in Japan. Every year, some 40 young European executives start an 18-month program consisting of 12 months of intensive Japanese language study and a weekly business seminar or industrial visit, followed by 6 months of in-house training in a Japanese company. By 2002, over 800 executives had participated.

In 1988, the Delegation of the European Commission in Japan approached IMDS for the organization of the business seminars and industrial visits in and around Tokyo, starting with ETP 8. From that date on until 2002 when ETP 20 took place, annually some 40 business seminars and a dozen of industrial visits were staged for an average of 40 participants.
